Parzival -A sword for a fool on his way to become a king
Will this sword empower the bearer to stand in the center of the mandala?
Fresh from the anvil after 60 hours of work.
The blade is made from 1075 carbon steel.
The hilt is assembled by a guard made of bronze, a pommel out of copper and kingswood for the handle.
The balance point is 12 cm behind the guard and the two centeres of percussion are where they are supposed to be.
In total the sword is one meter long with an 80cm blade coming in at around 1,2 kg.
Parzival has been my favorite tale for a while now and I’ve known it from childhood days.
I was revisiting the myth in the aftermath of the breakup of a seven year long relationship. After finishing the tale I started on a project a little to big for my workshop: A bastard sword.
I needed something to cut things apart, something that would help me find my power, to go my own path, to parzival -to cross the valley.
This is a special object that lead me down many syncronicitous events this year.
It helped me start on a journey which illustrates beautifuly how fateweaving can work:
A meaningful even happens in life. By chanelling the energies from the event into a piece of art, that art allows one to engage with new meaningful experiences. The artefact serves to shape the saliencelandscape. More of what feels relevant can be seen and engaged with.
This year the myth of parcival crossed my paths many times, at one occation I even had the opportunity to play a character that shared the same archetypal patterns like him in a live action role play.
Now in two weeks, I will attend a week long seminar on Parzival by Martin Shaw -a world renowned storyteller and mythologist. Im excited where this will lead.
I hope parzival, in form of the sword and the tale will help me to continue begin things as a fool, so that I can become more and more my inner king.
Would I have had encountered all these opportunities if I had not forged the sword?
-I don’t know, syncronicities are not for explaning, they are to wondered and wandered about.
